BRETT BENTON

BRETT BENTON

Alabama-born and Southern-raised, Brett “Bad Blood” Benton left the city of Pensacola, FL to perform his hill country and delta style of blues around the country and the world. Currently in the Pacific Northwest, this 25-year-old artist has shared his soulful and southern style in a quickly-growing list of places ranging from Edgar Allen Poe’s historic neighborhood alongside Richmond’s own The Bush League, historic theaters, county fairs, countless restaurants and music venues, good ole fashioned house parties, front porches, graveyards and in the deep of the woods. He has also played festivals such as the Columbia City Blues Festival, The Taste of Snohomish Music Blues Festival, The Walla Walla Guitar Festival, the Sunbanks Music Festival and the Yakima Blues & Brews Music Festival as well as having previously made a short appearance at the Winthrop Rhythm and Blues Festival.

He lists among his accomplishments being featured as Artist of the Month in the Pensacola-based Po10tial Magazine, being featured on numerous occasions in the Washington Blues Society Bluesletter, and a live interview/performance on Everett-based KSER Radio’s Saturday night program “Audio Indigo” and Tacoma’s “Mighty Mouth Blues” Radio, to name a few. As of late he is the recipient of the Washington Blues Society BB Award for Best Acoustic Blues Artist of 2017.

Although he has shared the stage with many musicians ranging from local players all the way to the likes of Grammy-Nominated Artist (and friends) Cedric Burnside and Walter Trout, International Blues Challenge award winning Ben Hunter & Joe Seamons and PNW favorites HILLSTOMP, his raw style is best heard one of two ways: paying homage to its roots with solo, acoustic slide guitar and “foot stompin’ and hollerin’ ” as Bad Blood himself would put it and electric alongside a drummer.

His love and respect for this style of blues will make you feel like you are sitting on a southern porch with him in the dead middle of the wet summer heat. Some of his biggest influences include (but are not limited to): Fred McDowell, Robert Johnson, R.L. Burnside, his grandson Cedric Burnside, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Junior Kimbrough, Skip James… and the list goes on. He has even spent much time in the state of Mississippi itself to learn this particularly rhythmic, often hypnotic and intensely driving style of blues from its very source in Holly Springs. Although very recently moved from the South, he is already making significant headway in the Pacific Northwest blues scene so stay tuned to catch his upcoming shows.

Purely acoustic music. No place to hide... No electric guitars, no drums. Great songs, rich harmonies, entertaining and captivating!
