SEAN BENDICKSON

Sean grew up in Montana, singing songs with his brothers. Throughout school he was primarily a student of the drumset. Once moving to the Pacific Northwest, he rooted himself in the music scene with his adept drumming skills. While recording on dozens of records, touring with Glen Phillips (of Toad the Wet Sprocket) and fighting the bar crowds in Seattle, Tacoma and Anacortes, he fostered his skills as a guitarist and songwriter.

His original music and vocals first appeared on two albums on which he collaborated with his brothers: "Are We There Yet" (2000) and "Ordinary Day" (2002). In 2004 he stepped out to create albums of own. Sean's music is original, surprisingly mature acoustic rock invoking images of love lost, road trips, spiritual seeking and coming of age.

Sean still freelances as a drummer, bass player and guitarist in an extensive list of groups and studios. He also leads music at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Everett. He is currently planning to finish his second album and to increasingly book dates in the greater Pacific Northwest.

JANETTE WEST
Wednesday, January 23, 2019

JANETTE WEST

Seattle-based vocalist Janette West's multi-layered career spans four decades, and was nurtured in the fabric of Northwest music history. Her voice and style is a rich composite of dynamic jazz improvisation with the plush warmth of soulful R&B influences. JazzTimes magazine writes, “West is a first rate swinger, comparable in style and gusto to Ernestine Anderson, though the warmth of her ballads is more reminiscent of Natalie Cole.” The Examiner writes: “Janette West is a lovely and mercurial vocalist, a local favorite.”

When Janette sings, she shares a passion behind every note, every breath, and you get the feeling she has lived every lyric. She knows her way around the music and easily draws the audience into a robust ride. There is an obvious respect between her and the musicians with whom she generously shares the spotlight. Says Janette, “We have an amazing resource of world-class musicians in the Seattle area. I am in awe of the players I have been fortunate to work with and I feel privileged to play music with my husband as well.”

Marty TuttleJanette's husband/drummer Marty Tuttle, a veteran musician with a long history of credits, is the son of local treasure and icon trombonist Dave Tuttle. Growing up in a “jazz home,” Marty has lived music his entire life. Together, Janette and Marty formed their own groups. “Marty and I love playing music together. We know how lucky we are to share this dimension of life. We connect very well musically and this provides a solid core for the group.”

Their first CD, titled Snapshot and released on the Pony Boy Records label, features jazz standards with a Latin twist and is available on Amazon and iTunes. The cohesive duo of Eric Verlinde on piano and Chuck Kistler on bass thrill the listener while percussionist Ricardo Guity injects a rich Afro-Cuban flavor into the mix. The result earned them a choice write-up in Jazz Times magazine.
