BOBBY HOLLAND and the BREADLINE

Bobby Holland and the Breadline draws from some of the top players in the Seattle area. The band is led by singer, songwriter and guitarist, Bob Holland. Originally from Virginia, Holland spent the early part of his career touring the U.S. with a series of groups. He arrived in the Seattle area with Hotel Texas and eventually settled here. Along the way, he has played with such legendary artists as fiddler Sugarcane Harris, blues man Harvey Mandel and Texas troubadour Joe Ely.

Rick Star, Breadline's eclectic bassist, plays both the electric fretless and stand-up bass. He complements the band with his fine harmony and lead vocals as well as his songwriting abilities. A Los Angeles transplant, Star has played everything from acid jazz to rock and roll to blues. He has appeared with artists as diverse as Terry Bozzio of the Jeff Beck Group and Pat Smear of Nirvana.

Gary Porter, with over thirty years of experience, is one of the area's most sought-after session drummers. Originally from West Texas, Porter met longtime associate Bobby Holland as a member of The Walrus Brothers in the late seventies. Since then, Porter has toured with several groups including Sweet Talkin' Jones, Rick Derringer and the McCoys and Sly and the Family Stone.

Rounding out the quartet is 2 time World Harmonica Champion, Jim McLaughlin. Jim has toured North America, Australia, Japan and Europe, performing a wide variety of musical styles. As a studio musician, McLaughlin can be heard on numerous recordings. He has performed with such notables as The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, WAR, Vassar Clements, Townes Van Zandt and Charlie Musselwhite to name a few.

Bobby Holland and the Breadline have played many of the major clubs and venues throughout the Northwest and they continue to make new fans everywhere they go. Check them out, and we think you'll agree: Bobby Holland and the Breadline are the real deal.

Show starts at 7:30.

ORIGINAL JIM

After an early career as an a cappella singer, mutt-rock bassist and one-man rhythm section, Jim Castaneda has found himself to be a sort of live-looping virtuoso. Nowadays, with the learned ability to create music by seamlessly layering multiple ideas and simultaneously dancing about an array of instrumentation, Jim is defining his sonic space and bringing a great new sound to the northwest music scene.

He has come to call his self-contained concept a ‘Solo Band’, because like some sort of musical octopus, ‘Original Jim’ utilizes guitar, voice, keyboard, a few carefully chosen foot pedals and a fresh approach to percussion to sound more like a small band than a solo act.

Jim’s growing repertoire includes songs from his debut solo album, Beatbox Soul, as well as current ideas and original arrangements of some of his favorite hits. Genre range from pop to folk to country to funk to americanna soul to somewhere outside jazz; with a beat you can feel and just the right amount of improvisation to keep the artist on his toes.

Showtime is 6PM.

JOAN PENNEY HOLIDAY SHOW special guest JACQUELINE TABOR

Joan Penney is joined by Seattle vocalist, Jaqueline Tabor for a special holiday show.

Joan’s performances include jazz standards, Latin, Pink Martini, blues, musical theater classics and one of a kind arrangements. With two degrees in music, she has enjoyed a diverse and successful career in the arts. Joan’s vocal training is the foundation of her versatility, singing prowess, and musical interpretation of the great American songbook.

Jacqueline Tabor, the award-winning Pacific Northwest vocalist, is both a student of music and one of its most sought-after Emerald City performers. Skills, of course, are honed, experience is earned, and Tabor has amassed a great deal of both in her time as an artist. She first studied jazz in high school under pianist Jack Halm before continuing her education in the blues at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Later, Tabor worked with the accomplished Cornish College vocalist, Andrienne Wilson, and followed that with performances in Kobe, Japan, upon winning the Seattle-Kobe Sister City Association Female Jazz Vocalist Award.
